No “True Grit”

Luccombe is being denied its traditional winter gritting/salting supplies that have previously been delivered to roadside grit bins and in 25kg bags of salt. Those who know they need to travel in icy and snowy weather should prepare by buying approved salt/grit in preparation.

Luccombe in the snow

Despite the experience of the “Beast from the East” and the risk of extreme weather Somerset County Council is cutting the winter road gritting/salting programme.

As part of its cost cutting measures Somerset County Council is reducing the roads it is gritting and salting in the coming winter. The map below shows in red the roads that will continue to receive treatment for snow and ice and those marked in blue are those that will no longer be treated.

Luccombe will be affected by the Council’s decision not to replenish grit bins and salt bags in Luccombe and on the roads out of the village including the road from Chapel Cross to Dunkery and Webber’s post. (see map below where blue markers denote places where stocks will no longer be replenished).
