The parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed 13th century church, built of red sandstone with 16th and 17th century adaptations and later additions. The church has an 85 foot heigh tower with gargoyles. The glass in the church windows dates primarily from the 19th century but there are some fragments of older glass in the East aisle window that were recovered and reinstated following a drastic renovation in 1840. A more sympathetic refurbishment took place in 1895, when some of the previous work was modified, including the removal of a large gallery in the nave. During this work the church was found to have no foundations – but the remains of a smaller, earlier structure were uncovered beneath the medieval building – indicating that there has been a church on this site since Domesday times.
