Wessex Water are planning to undertake some essential work to replace sections of the water main in Luccombe and Horner over the next few months, in order to make the supply more reliable in the future.

Ros at East Luccombe Farm has kindly offered to let people park at the farm during the period of disruption, provided that they speak to her first to confirm where to park and that they understand that they will be parking at their own risk. We will publish more news on the road closures as soon as we have it.

Update: 24th October

Official Announcement of Road closure at Chisland Lane from 60m north east of the junction with West Luccombe Road, north-eastwards for a distance of 30 metres. This road will be closed from the 26th of November and the closure is expected to last for 2 days. See map below for details:

As anyone who lives here will know, the water main is badly in need of replacement and we have had a few periods of disruption to the supply over the last couple of years so the work is very welcome – although there will be some disruption to traffic in Luccombe and Horner whilst the works are carried out.

Road closure in Luccombe 1st October – 28th November

The work starts on Monday October 1st when West Luccombe Road and Church Gate to Manor House Gateway will be closed. Works are expected to continue here until 23rd November. At present we are not sure if the road will be closed for the whole of this period but we will find out and post updates here when we have more information.

Chisland Drive closed from 26th – 28th November

Works will then be carried out on Chisland Drive (the small lane which leads from Chapel Cross – opposite the Dunkery turning – to Piles Mill) from 26th to the 28th November.

Disruption in Horner 26th November – 7th December

And finally, the last round of work will be completed in West Luccombe Road – by Horner Tea Gardens – starting on Monday 26th November until Friday 7th December.

Water Supply disruption

The water supply may also be briefly disrupted during these works but Wessex Water will give 48 hours notice before this happens.

At present it is not clear if the roads will completely closed during the works or if traffic lights will be in place but we are working to find out more information and will post it here once we have any news.

If you have any specific concerns or questions about the works then you can call Wessex Water on 0345 600 4600.

Somerset County Council have supplied us with a map of alternative routes for Luccombe traffic (pictured below) when the road closures are in place.
