Luccombe now has a defibrillator. It is located in the porch of the village hall. The door is unlocked for quick access. Parents are asked to tell children the defibrillator is lifesaving equipment and should not be touched, except in an emergency.

Luccombe would like to thank Phil Palmer and Michael Butcher from the Manor House and the Porlock Show Committee for their generous donations towards the cost of the defibrillator. Thanks also to Ros Clements the Parish Council clerk who researched, procured and had the defibrillator installed.

Experience has shown that the actual arrival times of emergency ambulances in the event of emergencies in the village is far longer than the eight minutes advertised.  Knowing where the defibrillator is located and knowing how to use it could save lives.

defibrillator

Due to the pandemic, we cannot currently arrange training sessions offered by London Hearts who supplied the defibrillator. However we have this raining video that explains what do do in an emergency:

Several people in the village took advantage of the CPR cardiac resuscitation courses given by villager, Stuart Tisbury. The names of those who have completed the course are on our CPR page.

The Parish Council will organise CPR and defibrillator courses if people indicate they would like the training.

Remember: even if you don’t know how to use the defibrillator or how to do CPR doing something is better than doing nothing. It sounds facetious to say the worst that can happen is that someone dies. If you do nothing, that is more likely.
