We have received this from the National Trust, regarding a free art workshop, taking place at Holnicote House on the 25th June – details below:

We’d like to invite to you to a curated textile workshop in partnership with artist Sally Light. Come along and learn the craft of rag rugging. No previous experience necessary!

This thrift craft was once used in farmhouses and cottages all over Somerset, to make rugs for the bare floor. It’s a fun, creative way to upcycle scraps of fabric.

Make some beautiful sample pieces to take away with you, inspired by plumage of some of the endangered birds in Somerset. For those that would like them, patterns will be available!

This is a free workshop funded by the National Trust Blossom Programme. All tools and equipment will be provided. Participants will be invited to exhibit their work in Somerset Rural Life Museum in September for Somerset Arts Week, 2024.

This year’s theme is landscape flux and flow, which will draw our attention to our changing local landscapes and growing intimacy with the natural environment, and positioning those within the larger context of the climate crisis.

The workshop will be taking place at Holnicote House, Tuesday 25th June at 11 am – 2pm for a total of 3 hours including a break and complimentary tea, coffee, and cake. Please feel free to bring a packed lunch too.

There are up to 15 spaces, offered on a first to RSVP basis. Please RSVP by emailing  stephanie.wilson1@nationaltrust.org.uk with the names of attendees
