We received this detailed picture of East Luccombe Farm this week, with the following info:
The church is still there as is the barn on left, but everything else n the photo, including, I believe, the tailor’s shop in the centre, is long gone. Back in the 1950’s this tiny village boasted a thriving export business to South America as the village cobbler made his beautiful hand crafted riding boots for Argentinian polo players.

I too have this lovely view in my postcard collection and there used to be a huge enlargement of it on display at Piles Mill (it may still be there). The photo was taken by Alfred Vowles, and my postcard view shows a little more. On the right, part of the roof of Culver Cottage and the wall in front of the linhay which used to be next to it is visible. The thatched ‘barn’ partially hidden behind the foreground tree-trunk was the tailors shop of Ethelred Ellis. I will develop this more in my next “picture of the month”.
The cobbler was Bill Glasow, who lived in Post Cottage with his wife Sarah. He drove an old 3-wheeler car. I can remember hearing the tapping of his cobbler’s hammer when walking past.
I believe Ethelred Ellis was my ?many times grandfather .I have family tree
