The Road to Ruin or the Ruin to Road?
In January this year, Stoney Street suffered serious subsidence after heavy rains eroded its underpinnings. This was primarily because drains and gullies in Stoney Street and the roadway up to Webber’s Post had not been kept clear. The subsidence remains unrepaired.
However, there is hope on the horizon.
Somerset Council highways have contacted Luccombe Parish Council to advise that they hope to repair the subsidence between 29 January and 2 February next year. The repairs are weather and budget-dependent, so their completion is not guaranteed.
Luccombe Parish Council has been advised that the highways department may need to close Stoney Street during the repairs although they say residents should be able to continue having access to their homes.
Please make a note of the dates as the road may be inaccessible, there may be heavy construction vehicles moving materials from East Luccombe Farm and there may be parking congestion for the duration. Luccombe Parish Council will post information on the website as it becomes available.
