A team from the highways department of Somerset County Council will be visiting Luccombe on Thursday to hear from parish councillors the problems that people in this area experience on the roads.
This is your opportunity to raise issues in the comments section below about the ways congestion, road repairs, detours, salt and grit in the winters etc affect you and what you think needs to be done. The comments will be put to the team in the hope that some of the road issues can be addressed.

It was nice to see the work done to reduce flooding in Luccombe Lane between Lane Foot and Beer Barn Corner, although the bed of the stream running beside the road in the Beer Barn area still seems very high and in need of cleaning out. However, further down towards Blackford on the parish boundary near Bryant’s Moor,(just to the Blackford side of the bridge), there is a regular problem with flooding despite drains on the side of the road. Could this area be looked at with a view to upgrading the drainage system? The present setup seems inadequate and gets frequently blocked. There is usually a lot of run-off from Bryant’s Moor into the road at times of heavy rain. It is frustrating to see the road badly flooded when the river level is still below road level.
Hi Eric, I carried out work in the spring inside the road hedge at my own expense at the bottom end of bryants moor (Where the hedge was laid). This has eliminated the run off from and through the temporarily unused gateway. This should very much help to stop the road flooding and hopefully keep the road open for the people of Luccombe for longer in times of extreme rain.
Hi Nick. Yes- I noticed that drainage work had been carried out, and I am sure that it will make a big difference to the amount of flooding in that area and will be appreciated by all of us who use Luccombe Lane regularly. My main concern however is on the other side of the bridge, where the existing drains seem incapable of coping with the standing water, which I think will gather there irrespective of the amount of work that you have done, as this had been a problem area long before I noticed any run-off from your gateway. Let’s see what happens this winter.
